Eileen’s Volunteer Life In South Africa

Eileen’s work is enriched through an active volunteer life. Since 2008, she and her educator husband make regular trips to a rural South African school to improve literacy. Eileen’s family engagement project in 2009, creating a Quilt of Dreams, created new avenues for families to connect with the school. In 2010, her family and many U.S. volunteers collected and organized a library of 23,000 quality donated books for the school, sent in a 40-foot shipping container which was converted into the school’s library. Their efforts were documented in The Washington Post and Voice of America TV. She continue to return to A.V. Bukani Primary School to empower teachers and families. Learn more on their blog.

Eileen lives with her husband Larry in the Washington, D.C., area.
